Over the Moon with Gelato

There is something mystical about creamy, smooth and almost buttery gelato from Sydney’s Cow over the Moon gelateria. The slower the cream is churned and serving it at warmer temperatures makes the flavour really stand out. This is a refreshing approach because most gelato use volumes of sugar to accomplish the same affect.

If you are a Sarah Wilson follower then this is a perfect treat, because it has less sugar for your seventh day. Now, don’t let the crowd that congregates on the back streets of Newtown turn you away. The almond adffogato flavour won Gelato World Tour title in Rimini, Italy for 2014. Combining caramelised almonds with single origin coffee on a Madagascan vanilla base. There is a reason there is always a line outside the front after dinner.

Others on the hit list include frangipani gelato  with a twist on the pavlova. It has a meringue-flavoured base, passionfruit puree and meringue pieces folded throughout.

It is all about balance. The salt, sweet and sour the Crowl family have refined to please crowds both near and far.

I chose the elderberry and  pomegranate which had subtle flavours that I really enjoyed rather than something that is really in your face. There are so many flavours that you could spend 20 minutes just deciding. They go through eight trays of each flavour each night, so you really can’t go wrong with what you choose. You may even want to be surprised and choose blindfolded – to spice things up.
